Judiciary Committee Issues

The Judiciary Committee holds broad legislative and oversight jurisdiction.  Thus, this practice area involves a wide array of issues that fall within its purview, including antitrust, intellectual property, tort liability reform, the courts, bankruptcy, commercial law, as well as hot-button issues such as criminal justice, immigration, gun control, and religious liberty. The principals of Olive, Edwards, & Cooper work on a number of these issues at any one time, and have worked on all of them at one time or another.

Olive, Edwards, & Cooper has been active on Judiciary issues since the firm’s inception.  David Olive and Jim Edwards both worked on Capitol Hill for Judiciary Committee members. We have helped open doors and shape policy on health care antitrust, tort reform, and intellectual property and liability protection.  We have testified or assisted clients with their congressional testimony, assisted Hill staffers on behalf of clients in analyzing and formulating Judiciary legislation, drafted questions to be asked of witnesses at congressional hearings, and suggested policy areas in need of congressional oversight.

We have arranged meetings with key White House personnel for our clients. In fact, the ideas quietly offered in such meetings have subsequently been announced as a policy proposal by a federal agency.  Similarly, we have helped clients take advantage of our contacts to convey policy ideas for consideration, such as at the Justice Department.
